What If Your Family Lived Here?
Families live here. Irrelevant to whether one shares the same last name, ethnicity or culture; these are innocent human beings no different to you or I, had chance played differently it could be us in their position. A genocide is being committed in front of our eyes and it is our duty as humans to stand up for the right of all humanity to exist. The Israeli President Isaac Herzog who Starmer recently hosted in Downing Street stated in 2023, “it’s an entire nation out there that is responsible. It is not true, this rhetoric about civilians who were not aware and not involved. It is absolutely not true.” The state of Israel is openly genocidal in their intent and evidently genocidal in it’s actions. In the first 12 months of the massacre life expectancy in Gaza decreased from 75.5 years to 40.5 years; however as with many of the figures this is only accounting for direct deaths, not including indirect effects such as malnutrition or lack of healthcare access. Within the first 12 months Israel carried out 498 attacks on healthcare facilities in Gaza. Food has become weaponised as over 1,373 people have been killed at aid distribution sites. Education has been rendered impossible as attacks have caused damage to more than 70% of schools. Over 1 in 3 directly killed by Israel in Gaza are children; let alone the disproportionate amount of indirect child deaths this siege will continue to cause. No matter how much effort is put into hiding the atrocities by not allowing journalists into Gaza we still know more than enough to call out this regime for its indefensible crimes and demand accountability.
The recent United Nations report on the 13th of September 2025 concluded with certainty that Israel has been committing a genocide against the people of Palestine. The future of international law is entirely undermined as nations have repeatedly ignored calls from international bodies. To stand up for for Palestinians is to stand up for humanity, silence sides with the oppressor.
